Special Lecture by Professor François Lachaud, “World theater: A Study of Jesuit and Japanese Theater”
A lecture was given on 23 July by François Lachaud, Director of Studies at the École française d’Extrême-Orient, at the regular meeting of the Association of Noh and Kyogen Studies, held in conjunction with the Institute.
The contents of the lecture were the history of the Jesuits and Christian literature, the difference of understanding of the missionaries of tea ceremony and Noh. Dr. Lachaud has been considering the situation at the time of Noh from fragmentary material. Held after the workshop for editing the English-language encyclopedia of Noh, the talk was attended by many researchers and led to a lively question and answer session. The possibilities were in evidence of an international perspective on Noh studies. There were forty-four attendees.
