This seminar dealt with a variety of contemporary issues involving Noh theatre, such as experimental collaboration with other arts, Noh in English, and the creation of new Noh plays. The program of Day 1 centered on the perspective of Noh actors and other practitioners of the Noh theatre, with various reports on the situation “in the field,” so to speak. At the symposium of Day 2, reports from representatives of the fields of education and contemporary theatre were fosallowed by a general discussion of the “Nohesque” elements common to these new endeavors. Day 3 explored possibilities for the inspirational influence on Noh on other genres, from the perspective of Western music. Publication of a report on the seminar is planned for the coming year.
