Motion Capture of Noh movements
On this page you can download the noh movement data and data list.
Noh actor’s movements are recorded and visualized through motion-capturing, made possible through the research projects, “”Elucidating the undocumented parts of noh ‘katatsuke’ based on the 3DCG database of noh performances”” (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Innovative Fields, FY2009-2011), and “”Elucidating the rules of noh katatsuke descriptions and the systematic transmission of techniques through engineering knowledge”” (Innovative Interdisciplinary Project of Humanities and Social Sciences, FY2009-2013). We are grateful to Mr. Umano Masaki, shite actor of the Kanze school, for his cooperation to this project. The names of the movement units are based on Kanze-ryu shimai katatsuke (Hinoki Shoten, 2002), notes of “”kata”” (formalized movements) of the Kanze school.
You can download the bvh player from Oshita Masaki Laboratory, Department of Artificial Intelligence, Graduate School of Computer Science and System Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology.
